Portraits

These images are actually of Heather's mom. Heather's brother, John, swims on the same team I do so when I went to take pictures of 36 different people at a swim meet, Susan was ready. I went around and asked a variety of people to take their picture, she was working on our prize ribbons and had been doing so all weekend. I have known this exceptional woman for about 8 years now and she is always the nicest person, even when she's not smiling she has a hint of a smile.

This is my friend, Adam's, mother. She was running concessions at the swim meet, selling food to all of the starved swimmers at the meet. I wanted to take a picture of her because her face is so defined, it's softer. She had troubles not smiling and I finally just let her smile because more often than not that is what she does. Smiles.

This photo was completely accidental. Louise and I were just messing around between races I had finished my project and started taking random pictures of the swimmers. The goggle marks and her well, creepy, stare mixed with the blur of trying to catch the image when transferred to black and white turned out quite interesting.

Aaron is a funny guy, he has some of the most interesting faces. I couldn't stop trying to catch the variety of them, this one was as he was walking by I managed to snap one as we were walking, he is in focus but as we were walking everything else became blurred. Aaron provides the comic relief in swimming with his PSY impressions and cynical view on swimming. I was happy to catch one image that was solid because most of the time I was too busy laughing at him.

Eric, the oh so mature age group coach. Eric is a very tough love guy, when he is happy he is really fun to be around and his persistent teasing anybody can get used to. However, when it's a bad day for his swimmers, stay clear. Luckily I got to catch him first thing in the morning right after his coffee and pancakes (provided as a slight bribe by my brother). I told him not to smile and this is what I got. Pretty much Eric.

This is an image that I think portrays Jeanine's softer side. She is the Head coach, and she is in charge of all the older kids. I like her edited in the softer blue colors just because I think it is easier to see her age. Jeanine looks very young for her age, but I think in these images it's easier to see her exhaustion and effort she put into our team. Swimming is a sport that makes you grow up, swimmer take a lot of who they are from their coaches and races. It's unlike any other sport and the attention she gave every single one of us is unmeasurable. I think this shows exactly the toll losing so many seniors to college has left on her.
